This bird was seen on an ocean beach at Augusta, Western Australia, on 31 October, 2006. Not being familiar with Aussie waders, I assumed it was a Common Greenshank, but it has been pointed out to me that the legs are too short for a Common Greenshank, and the bill seems straight or slightly downcurved, rather than curved up like a greenshank's. Any help with identification would be appreciated. Email to birder1944@aol.com .
Thanks for the help - the bird has been identified as a Great Knot.
